Matthew L. Hensley has received many awards through the Columbia Missouri Police department. He is one of the notable few young men of law enforcement in the area due to his experiences in the career field and only being 19. He started working in the career field through his local Explorer post with the Columbia Police department at only the age of 13. Matthew has competed across the state with other explorer posts that have help guide him on the right path to success in his career field. He has been noted as one of the few youth individuals to receive the Exercise tiger award brought forth from the United States Department of Defense and the President of the United States. Matthew received his award from the Columbia police department and was brought forth by the Adviser for the Explorer post and the Assistant Chief of Columbia police department. Matthew has also completed the Missouri State Highway Patrol Pursuit school in Warrensburg, Missouri and also was one of the younger individuals to take and pass a First Responder course along with Hazardous materials training. He has also taken many active shooter and hands on training that have to do with traffic stops, domestic situations, building searches, cultural diversity, psychology, criminology, and evidence collection/ processing. Matthew has taken part in many public and closed events ranging from BBQ festivals to Fairs and many other events. Matthew has attended over 800 hours of logged service time and does this through training with law enforcement an other posts to improve on the necessary career elements that are implemented with law enforcement. Matthew continues to serve in the law enforcement field with the Centralia Missouri police department and the Columbia Police Department. Outside of law enforcement, Matthew is also a Firefighter with the Boone County Fire District. Early life Matthew Hensley was born and raised in the small town of Centralia, Missouri with his parents, Jerry and Eva Hensley. His mother, Eva, owns and operates her own store in Hallsville, Missouri. Matthew participated in the local 4-h club and the Centralia FFA chapter. He has one sister that has moved on to be a nurse practitioner and does her studies near home. Growing up, Matthew started taking on his interest in law enforcement at the earliest age that he possibly could and got as much hands on experience as possible. Education In 2002, Matthew started attending the Sunnydale adventist academy which was a private school in between Centralia and Sturgeon Missouri. In 2006, Matthew transferred to Hallsville public schools so that he could be closer to his mothers business in order to help after class. In 2010, Matthew transferred to Centralia public schools where he finished out his high school education. Matthew Currently is attending Moberly Area Community College and is seeking to major in Criminology and minor in Social behavior. Matthew has also furthered his study by attending law enforcement seminars and training held across the State of Missouri. He seeks to complete a 4-year degree and attend a local Law enforcement academy.
