Matt Carthy is an Irish politician. He is a member of Sinn Féin and has been on the Carrickmacross town council since 1999.
The National Organiser of Ogra Sinn Féin from 1998 to 2000, he has also served on the Monaghan County Council since 2004 and was Mayor of Monaghan in 2008/2009. He is a member and current chair of the Border Regional Authority, and a member of Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle. He was part of Pearse Doherty's campaign team for the 2011 Donegal South West by election and was selected as Sinn Féin’s candidate for the EU constituency of Midlands Northwest in July 2013.
