Ruth Coppinger

Ruth Coppinger is an Irish Socialist Party county councillor in Fingal County Council.
She is originally from south Dublin and was politically active in Labour prior to the expulsion of the Militant Tendency from the party. She later attended at University College Dublin.
She was co-opted to take the council seat of Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins in July 2003. Coppinger was prominent in the Anti-Bin Tax Campaign which received national media attention following the jailing of Joe Higgins and their colleague Clare Daly for their protests against non-collection of refuse.
In the following year's local elections Coppinger was the first elected receiving the second highest number of first preference votes in Mulhuddart with 1,848 votes (14.72%). In the June 2009 election she was the first Councillor elected in Mulhuddart with 1,705 first preference votes (12.86%).
