Mark Madryga

Mark Madryga (born 1963 in Kamloops, British Columbia) is a Canadian meteorologist. He is best known as an on-air personality for Global BC, and maintains television celebrity status in British Columbia.
Education
Mark Madryga was born and raised in Kamloops, and graduated from NorKam Secondary School in 1981. He went on to complete three years at Cariboo College (now Thompson Rivers University), then transferred to the University of British Columbia where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Geography. Madryga went on to do a fifth year of study at the university.
In 2009 Thompson Rivers University awarded Madryga with an Honorary Doctorate Degree.
Career
In May 1987 Madryga began working for Environment Canada as a meteorologist, where he was posted to the Pacific Weather Centre in Vancouver. In May 1994 he began working for BCTV (now Global) as the Noon News forecaster. In 1997 he began doing weekend morning and News Hour forecasts as well. In 2006 he started forecasting for the Morning News. Madryga also does weather forecasts for several major radio stations in Canada, including CKNW in Vancouver.
Social Campaigns
Madryga has taken advantage of his celebrity status to raise awareness of social causes. He has served as the media spokesperson for different organizations and charities including the Vancouver Aquarium, Port of Vancouver, Lower Mainland Food Banks, BC Hydro, Tourism Kamloops and the Kamloops SPCA. Madryga also takes the time to visit elementary schools to teach children about weather and science.
