Marcy A. Winograd is a Los Angeles educator and political activist. She is known for her 2006 and 2010 primary challenges to incumbent Jane Harman for California's congressional district. She is once again running against Harman in the 2010 democratic primary. She is also the co-founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Progressive Democrats of America and LA Jews for Peace. She was born in New York City. Education and career Winograd earned a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974. She also received a teaching credential in 1993 from the University of California, Los Angeles. Winograd teaches at Crenshaw High School in South Los Angeles. Elections 2006 California 36th Democratic primary In the June 2006 Democratic primary, Winograd ran against incumbent Jane Harman. After watching Harman defend the recently-revealed Bush program of warrantless wiretapping on Meet the Press, Winograd moved into the congressional district and filed for Harman’s seat. Winograd criticized Harman's role as ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee in failing to protest when briefed on the Bush administration's warrantless wiretap program and voting for the Iraq war authorization. Harman won the primary, 62.5% to 37.5%. 2010 California 36th Democratic primary On May 11, 2009, Winograd announced her intention to challenge Harman once again in the Democratic primary. Harman won with 59% of the vote to Winograd's 41%.
