Maratha Kunabi

Maratha Kunabi term refers to a caste consisting mostly of farmers, predominantly in Maharashtra state of India and states bordering it.
History
Maratha Kunabi/Kunbi/Kurmi is the cluster of Maratha clans of 96 royal clans and their subdivisions who work and possess farms. The Maharashtriyan Kshatriyas of the Maratha cast were rulers of the regions and under Sultanet they were prominent. In society, Kunabi was a standard word that indicates rich, loyal status symbols.
Clans
There are some specific surnames of Kunabi/Kurmi Maratha but 96 Maratha surnames are found in the Kunabi Maratha community.
In the sultans period and under Shivaji Maharaj Regin some maratha were farmers as well as landlords who cultivated their land, not sunject to any king or ruler, so Maratha and Kunbi Maratha were the same.
Desale, Bhadane, Bhacchav, Nikam, Deore, Borse, Shinde,Sonawane, Pawar, Bhamare, Saner (Mejority found in Tajpuri& Bhatpura Dist. Dhule and Hated Dist Jalgaon), Bagal and Birari's from khandesh are 96 clan of maratha. Birari surname majority found in Salve village of Dharangaon Taluka in Jalgaon District & Sakri Taluka in Dhule district.
Maharashtra politics and other fields
* Many Maratha Politicians are from Kunabi/kurmi Maratha i.e. Farmer Maratha Background. They pride themselves as being the "Sons of the Soil". Many fields are dominated by Maratha cast sections.
Maharashtra's First Chief Minister was Kunabi Maratha Surnamed Chavan(One of the clan of 96 royal clans of Maratha).
* One should remember Kunabi Non Maratha Casts and Kunabi Maratha are not the same.
* Some Maratha warriors were Kshatriyas of Maratha cast like Raorane,Kadam,bhosale,Mohite etc

*chatrpati shivaji maharaj is from Rajput clan surname Sissodia from Rajhasthan origin.
