Luna Maia

Luna Maia is a San Francisco-based Yaqui mestiza queer poet who writes about issues of mixed heritage, feminism, and gender identity. Maia has been featured at cafés, libraries, bookstores, and universities throughout the San Francisco Bay area as well as in Tucson and Los Angeles.
Maia performed for four consecutive years in the Queer Cultural Center's National Queer Arts Festival and received an honorable mention for the Xochiquetzali Poetry Award in 2006 as well as a 2008 Individual Artist Native American Cultural Equity Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission.

Luna Maia has had work published in Yellow Medicine Review: International Queer Indigenous Voices (2010), Loudmouth Magazine (issue 15), Sovereign Erotics: A Collection of Two-Spirit Literature (2011), and Fierce Hunger: Writing from the Intersection of Trauma and Desire (2013).
