Mokhless Al-Hariri

Mokhless Al-Hariri-Rifai (1946-) is an Arab-American artist, architect, and author.
Biography
Mokhless Al-Hariri was born in 1946 in Aleppo, Syria, but grew up in Paris, France, before moving permanently to Washington, D.C., in 1972.
Family
Mokhless Al-Hariri's documented family tree spans over fourteen centuries. Some of his ancestors include Muhammad al-Qasim ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Uthman al-Hariri, known as Al-Hariri of Basra, the 11th century poet and philosopher, author of the Maqamat al-Hariri (The Assemblies of al-Hariri): Ali Al-Hariri-Rifai, the 13th century theologian; Mustapha Al-Hariri-Rifai, the 18th century musician and theologian; and Abdelrahman Al-Hariri-Rifai, the 19th century calligrapher and astronomer. He is the son of artist Wahbi Al-Hariri.
Education
Mokhless Al-Hariri-Rifai holds a Ph.D. in architecture and urban planning from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. He also attended the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris and pursued postgraduate studies at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

The Georgetown Design Group
Dr. Al-Hariri is the Creative Director and President of the The Georgetown Design Group, Inc.a company he founded in 1977. His diversified work in the areas of architecture, exhibit and stage productions, photography, and documentaries, has been widely reported and has earned numerous awards.
He is the author of numerous articles and his published work includes co-authoring three books on the cultural heritage of the Arabian Peninsula.
Activities
His commitment to cross cultural dialogue brought him to serve as Cultural Advisor of the League of Arab States in the U.S., Advisor of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, and Vice-Chairman of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. He is currently on the board of several national organizations including the National Advisory Board of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Foundation for Arab Policy Studies, the French-American Cultural Foundation, and the Hala Salaam Maksoud Foundation for Arab-American Leadership.
