Charles E. Crutchfield III

Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD (born January 17, 1961) is an American physician and author. While being the only African American clinical dermatologist in Minnesota he has also published over 100 scholarly articles and co-authored the clinical textbook 101 Common Skin Diseases. He has also written or been interviewed for articles on WebMD, Maxim Magazine and InStyle Magazine. He has also appeared on numerous television news reports in the Minneapolis area and works to recruit physicians to participate in a skin cancer screening program sponsored by the Minnesota Twins.

Crutchfield is a second generation physician. Both his mother and his father attended the University of Minnesota Medical School. His mother, who was the first African American woman to graduate from the University of Minnesota Medical School, was in family practice and his father is an obstretician / gynecologist.

Crutchfield received a B.A. from Carleton College. After spending time training as a Navy pilot, he returned to school and received a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from the Mayo Clinic. He stayed at the Mayo Clinic to finish medical school in 1994.

Crutchfield's main focus of research is psoriasis, including DNA research to find a genetic link to the disease. He also does specialized research in ethnic skin and LipoDissolve Ultra, acne, Botox and Restylane.

*Awarded the Karis Humanitarian Award from the Mayo Clinic.
*Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Visiting Professor of Biology at Carleton College.
*Past treasurer of the Ramsey Medical Society and Vice President of the Minnesota Association of Black Physicians (National Medical Association Affiliate).
*Selected as one of the Best Doctors in America in 2005-2006 by the Best Doctors Association.
*Awarded "Physician Health Care Hero" in 2007 by Twin Cities and Medica.
*Received the "Platinum Award" in 2005 for Restylane and BOTOX Cosmetic.
*Winner of "Best Healthcare Content" for website.
