Lorry Girl

Lorry Girl is a 2012 Malayalam short film written and directed by Sandeep Pampally and produced by Pampally Productions. This short film is one of social impedance that shares a message to the modern society.
Plot
Lorry Girl narrates the life of a mother and her teen girl, their joys and sorrows, caring and sharing, aims and dreams and the sudden disaster engulfs their life. This includes a lesson for the exploiters of the society that sometimes they themselves become their own prey.
Lorry Girl is a traverse through the life of a prostitute Lakshmi, who sells her flesh to lorry drivers, out of helplessness and not out of choice. But, in every inch, she is a compassionate woman, very sensitive, caring and emotional. She is a sincere and passionate lover to Kannan, a lorry driver; a very protective mother to her only daughter Kani, around whom she weaves dreams of a bright and better tomorrow. The plot revolves around the relations of Kannan-lakshmi-kani.
Lorry Girl is a purposeful attempt to project the need for eradicating AIDS and stresses the need of using condoms. The selection of an undefined border as the back-drop and the representation of common place characters assert that a thorough and intense campaigning is essential to instill awareness among the lot.
Lorry Girl is going to be previewed in 14 centers in Kerala, and in all main cities in India and in many countries around the world on 1st of December, 2012.
Characterisation
The leading characters of Lorry Girl are Lachu (Lakshmi), Kannan and Kani. The characterization arise from the real life. Before starting the script, Pampally has gone through the experiences of different persons, incidents etc. Based on this, he chose Lakshmi as the leading character to convey the community the most valuable theme. Of course, there are many methods to say this story, but the character Lakshmi is a real symbol of our society. This leading character is done by Rani Sharan, wife of actor Sharan and daughter of late veteran famous actor Manjery Chandran. Being a journalist, she admired the character of Lakshmi and did her first appearance in lights as Lachu in Lorry Girl.

Kannan is the pillar character in Lorry Girl. This person involves in the life of Lakshmi and her daughter from both sides. According to his basic nature, he seems to be a negative character throughout the story. Yet, due to him, we get glimpses of a lady’s affection towards her daughter. This role is done by Sharan, a well experienced actor from 1990, who has already won several awards for his performances. Definitely Kannan will be a breaking character in his career.

Kani is the innocent daughter of Lachu. She doesn’t know anything. From the very beginning of the story, her innocence is visible. Selvam loves her and she opens her mind only to him. This grows to be a sweet tie between them which illustrates the warmth of relations in Kerala culture in India. This role is done by Meghna, an upcoming artist. Aadarsh is another new face appears as Selvam, who is a talented model too. Both Meghna and Selvam well presented their roles.
Location
The main location of the shoot is Kava, Palakkad, Kerala, India, which is famous for its scenic beauty. Many of the Malayalam movies are shot at various places of Palakkad, i.e. Vadakkanchery, Ottappalam, Malampuzha etc. Most of the scenes of this short film are from Kava and the Para. Lorry Girl was shot during the summer because the subject demands the season. During all the other seasons, these places are more greenish than it appears in Lorry Girl.
