Loren Brigham Laceste is the 2011 Canadian Under 18 chess champion. He resides in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Birth and early life Born in La Union, Philippines, he was taught chess at age seven. As an eight year old he competed on behalf of the Philippines at the 2002 World Youth Championship in Greece. Loren has two brothers. Canada His family immigrated to Canada in 2009 Laceste persevered through a four hour long, July 9, 2011, championship game played against "recognized international master" Arthur Calugar, to win the tournament with a 5.5 score. He defeated players with much higher Canadian Chess Federation ratings, including Calugar.
