Lizy Coleman

Lizy Coleman PT, LAT, ATC.(nee Zimmerman), is a Michigan born Athletic Trainer who has treated and rehabilitated elite athletes in Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina. Trainers are not usually considered notable. Coleman is leading the way in redefining the role of elite level training support. She is of significance because of she has redifined professional flexibity and adaptation at the elite level of athletics.
She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer of the Carolina Railhawks of the in Cary, North Carolina. She is one of the few athletic trainers who have been able to treat professional and Olympic level athletes in both the ice skating individual and pairs arena and the outdoor team environment of professional soccer.
In 1991, Coleman graduated from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Upon graduation she passed her certification as an Athletic Trainer and became licensed as a Physical Therapist in Ohio. In 1993, she returned to Detroit area and soon after began working for the William Beaumont Hospital system. In 2001 that relationship lead to a position in Sports Medicine support of the world renowned Detroit Skating Club home to Olympic and World Championship figure skaters and ice dancers. (HIPAA & guidelines prohibit specifically naming patients/athletes)
In 2006, she moved to North Carolina and began working for WakeMed. In 2009 because of that relationship, Coleman became the Head Athletic Trainer for the Carolina RailHawks who play at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC.
In her first year, while under Coleman's medical management, the 2009 team was able to finish second in the USL First Division. This performance was part of a transformational year where the medical management of the team was one of the key ingredients for the onfield success.
