History
Meetings
LAUG meets relatively every Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Ghana India Kofi Annan Advanced Information Technology Institute/ (KACE/AITI), except during longer holiday periods. LAUG is grateful to KACE/AITI for freely providing the facilities. The meetings are entirely free, however members are encouraged to contribute for day long activities to support their own refreshments!
LAUG meetings are meant to be a place to learn and advocate for FOSS and build community. Above all the face to face meetings provide hands on experience of FOSS mainly Linux - the basic requirement of a meeting of LAUG. Informal seminars or discussions on Linux and other FOSS related topics are an interesting feature. Some provide formal presentations. Presenters might be anyone in the community with something interesting to say.
Given the vastness of the FOSS area the presentations need not be technically complex but educate members on what is going on in any particular area. There has never been overt sales pitches other than offering training. As a community LAUG is interested in any offers to develop FOSS in Ghana so there are opportunities for members and guests to make announcements, on donations of hardware, for jobs offered and/or wanted, pleas for assistance (free or professional consulting) anything to improve the community!
A highlight of the group's activities is the annual Software Freedom Day.
