Li Shen

Li Shen () is a Chinese linguist and writer, born in 1947 in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province. He graduated from the Xuzhou Teachers' College in 1977. He is currently a professor in the Faculty of Arts at Xuzhou Normal University, and the associate director of the school's Language Research Institute. He is also a vice-chairman of the Xuzhou Municipal Government Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and holds various other political posts at the city and provincial level. He is the executive director of the Jiangsu Linguistics Society, and the Vice-President of the Xuzhou Linguistics Society. His most recent publication of note is An Investigation into the Dialect Vocabulary of Gold Vase Plum. His most famous work is The Record of the Xuzhou Dialect, published in 1985, as part of a series on Chinese dialects. He has published numerous academic articles and articles of official political commentary and political theory.
Li Shen's work has focused mostly on modern Chinese language and its dialects. He is interested in using local dialects and topolects to make a philological study of ancient texts. His recent writing is mainly in the area of political theory, language policy, and the question of language norms. He has been invited to contribute to the Chinese Ministry of Education's forum on "Language and the Nation."
