Chef Leroy Walwyn Jr. (born February 15, 1987) is aPersonal chef, Celebrity chef, Restaurateur, Entreprenuer and a television personality. He is currently a part-owner of Caribbean Flavors in Lawrenceville, Georiga, and Owner/executive chef of C.L.I. (Chef Leroy Inc.) in Duluth, Georiga
Personal life
Chef Leroy was born in St.Thomas, Virgin Islands,U.S. to Margarita and Leroy Walwyn Sr. He was raised in the Caribbean until the age of five, when his parents decided to move to Atlanta to pursue his father’s dream of opening the first Virgin Islands restaurant in the United States. His parents opened Caribbean Flavors in 1993 and it became Leroy Jr.’s focal point.
Career
Chef Leroy followed his father’s foot steps and decided at the age of seven that he wanted to become a Chef. Chef Leroy began helping out in the family restaurant at an early age and knew this was going to be his life. Chef Leroy got his first job in the restaurant industry when he was 17 years old at Whole Foods Market, in the prepared foods department. He worked his way from the pizza station to chef assistant through his tenure. Chef Leroy did volunteer work at country clubs while he attended Culinary Arts school, to understand the fundamental s of culinary art. Chef Leroy was offerd a cooking job at Lake Lanier Islands and Resort in Buford , Georgia , where he also did his externship for school.
Chef Leroy received a degree in Culinary Arts and Occupational Science from Le Cordon Bleu in 2006, After culinary school, he started working at Marriott International hotels where he quickly upgraded his skills in culinary arts. Chef Leroy then pursued a career with Sodexo as a lead cook and supervisor. In approximately one year Chef Leroy, at the age of twenty-one, was promoted in Sodexo as Sous Chef of The Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta ; this promotion soon defined his culinary career.
Shortly after taking the position at the Federal Reserve Bank, Chef Leroy became a full partner of Caribbean Flavors, the family restaurant, and relaunched it into a new era.
After working two years for Sodexo at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Chef Leroy left the corporate world in August 2010 to become an Entreprenuer. In March 2011, Chef Leroy decided to create his own corporation ,Chef Leroy Inc., also known as (C.L.I.). He works with high profile clients such as Etan Thomas, Atlanta Hawks,Jazze Pha, Brandon Miltsch and Peter Pasternack, just to name a few.
In addition to his restaurant , television shows, and personal chef services, Chef Leroy stays active in the community by feeding the homeless and mentoring aspiring chefs.
