Lauri J Owen

Lauri J Owen (born 1967) is a civil rights attorney and fantasy novelist.
Biography
Lauri J Owen was born in Camp Pendleton, California, to Lois and Larry Owen, a housewife and a Marine. Born the eldest child, her parents moved to Nampa, Idaho, shortly after the birth of Lauri's younger sister in 1970. Two more sisters were born in Nampa, where her father worked as a police officer. After her parents' divorce when Lauri was ten, her father moved to Alaska and worked as Chief of Police in Naknek, a rural community in the Alaska Bush.
After high school, Lauri worked as a deputy sheriff for thirteen years. While working full time, Lauri completed a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and then a master's degree in Communication at Boise State University. After graduation, and a divorce, she applied to attend law school at the University of California, Berkeley, from which she obtained her juris doctorate in 2006.
Lauri moved to Bethel, Alaska, an Alaska Bush community, after graduation and her father's death a year earlier. After three years, she moved to Anchorage with her young son to work as a civil rights lawyer, where she remains, and began writing fantasy novels set in an alternate Alaska that feature both magicians and enslaved shapeshifters.
