Lauren Lee Mitchell (born September 6, 1994) is a pageant titleholder with the Miss America pageant system, crowned Miss Piedmont Region in early 2016. She will be competing at the Miss Virginia preliminary for Miss America at the end of June. Mitchell attends Patrick Henry College and anticipates graduating in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. Personal platform More Than a Statistic: Empowering Children of Incarcerated Parents. Community service Mitchell is registered as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for Children through the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association (CASA), speaking on behalf of neglected and abused children in the foster care system. She is also a mentor to children of incarcerated parents and currently works with JUMP WV Mentoring. Throughout her time as Miss Piedmont Region, Mitchell has participated in Tim Tebow's Night to Shine event for children with special needs and advocated her platform with local northern Virginia advocacy groups. Accomplishments Mitchell is an award-winning public speaker and has claimed several titles throughout her college years. She is a former champion of Princeton University's Moot Court tournament, an ACMA moot court regional semi-finalist, and placed in the top five speakers for Team Policy Debate at STOA USA's 2012 National Tournament of Champions. She is the former captain of the Patrick Henry College debate team and represented her school at the World Championship Parliamentary Debate Tournament in Chennai, India, in 2013. Career Mitchell is HSLDA's Lead Legislative Assistant and advocates for educational issues. She makes frequent appearances on-air and in person on behalf of HSLDA's Federal Relations Department. Mitchell also assisted in the production of HSLDA's documentary series on public education, Building the Machine. She is also currently working to start a non-profit that will promote literacy in low-income school districts.
