Lucy Fleck

Lucy Marie Fleck (born June 30, 1985) is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Milwaukie, Oregon, who was crowned Miss Oregon 2005. She competed for the Miss America 2006 title in January 2006 but was not a finalist for the national title.
Pageant career
Early pageants
Before participating in the Miss America series of pageants, Fleck tried for the Miss Oregon Teen USA title for several years. In 2001, she was named first runner-up for the title.<ref name="dast050704"/> In 2002, she was named a semi-finalist.<ref name="msoruswi"/> In 2003, her final year of eligibility, Fleck again secured the first runner-up position.<ref name="dast150708"/>
As a 17-year-old high school senior, Fleck won the Miss Metro-East 2003 title.<ref name="dast030704"/> She competed in the 2004 Miss Oregon pageant with the platform "Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Through Early Detection" and a vocal performance in the talent portion of the competition.<ref name="msam2003"/> She was named third runner-up to winner April Robinson.<ref name="dast030714"/><ref name="rgrd030713"/><ref name="dast150708"/> As a runner-up, Fleck was chosen to represent Oregon at the National Sweetheart pageant in Hoopeston, Illinois. Fleck was the youngest of that year's 34 competitors and was not one of the 10 semi-finalists for that national title.<ref name="chit031019"/>
Fleck did not qualify for the 2004 Miss Oregon pageant.<ref name="msam2004"/>
Miss Oregon 2005
In April 2005, Fleck was crowned Miss Portland 2005.<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="msportwi"/> She entered the Miss Oregon pageant on her 20th birthday, June 30, 2005, as one of 22 qualifiers for the state title.<ref name="uprt050705"/> Fleck's competition talent was tap dancing to the Gloria Estefan cover of "Turn the Beat Around".<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="msam2005"/> Her platform was "Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Through Early Detection", including her volunteer work with the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.<ref name="uprt050705"/><ref name="lshs060127"/>
Fleck won the competition on Saturday, July 2, 2005, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Oregon titleholder Brook Roberts.<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="rgrd050704"/> She earned more than $10,000 in scholarship money and other prizes from the state pageant.<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="uprt050705"/><ref name="rgrd050703"/> As Miss Oregon, her activities included public appearances across the state of Oregon. Her reign lasted until she crowned her successor, Donilee McGinnis, Miss Oregon 2006 on July 1, 2006.<ref name="dast060622"/>
Vying for Miss America
Fleck was Oregon's representative at the Miss America 2006 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, in January 2006.<ref name="msam2005"/><ref name="lshs060127"/> She was not a finalist for the national crown and earned a $3,000 non-finalist scholarship award.<ref name="msam06sc"/><ref name="dast060127"/>
Early life and education
Fleck is a native of Clackamas County, Oregon, and a 2003 graduate of La Salle High School in Milwaukie.<ref name="lshs060127"/> Her father is Marin Fleck and her mother is Julie Fleck.<ref name="uprt050705"/> She has two brothers, Alex and Jon.<ref name="uprt050705"/>
Fleck is a graduate of the University of Portland where she studied business.<ref name="uprt050705"/> She is currently a law clerk in Portland, Oregon.
