Stephenie Steers

Stephenie Denise Steers is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Klamath Falls, Oregon, who was crowned Miss Oregon 2010. She competed for the Miss America 2011 title in January 2011 and was chosen as one of the Top 15 semi-finalists by her fellow competitors.
Pageant career
Early pageants
On November 28, 2004, Steers was named Miss Congeniality and placed third runner-up for the state title at the 2005 Miss Oregon USA pageant.<ref name="bbgl041129"/>
In early 2005, entering the Miss America system, Steers won the Miss Rogue Valley 2005 title. She competed in the 2005 Miss Oregon pageant with the platform "Promoting the Importance of Oral Hygiene and the Need for Fluoride in Community Water Systems", plus a dance and vocal performance of "I Can't Do It Alone" from the musical Chicago in the talent portion of the competition.<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="msam2005"/> She finished in the Top 10 but was not a finalist for the state crown.<ref name="dast050704"/><ref name="hene060623"/>
On April 22, 2006, Steers won the Miss City of Sunshine 2006 title.<ref name="mskcoswi"/> She competed in the 2006 Miss Oregon pageant with the platform "Character: Foundation for a Strong Future" and a Broadway-style vocal performance in the talent portion of the competition.<ref name="hene060623"/><ref name="dast060622"/><ref name="msam2006"/> In 2007, Steers won the Miss Emerald Valley 2007 title. She competed in the 2007 Miss Oregon pageant with the platform "Youth Empowerment through Character Education" and a vocal performance in the talent portion of the competition.<ref name="msam2007"/> She was named second runner-up to winner Kari Virding.<ref name="orgn070701"/>
On April 12, 2008, Steers won the Miss Klamath County 2008 title.<ref name="msklamwi"/> She competed in the 2008 Miss Oregon pageant with the platform "Leave a Legacy - Be TeRRiFiC!" and a vocal performance in the talent portion of the competition.<ref name="msam2008"/> Steers did not compete in the 2009 Miss Oregon pageant.<ref name="msam2009"/>
Miss Oregon 2010
In April 2010, Steers was crowned Miss Multnomah County 2010.<ref name="hene100806"/> She entered the Miss Oregon pageant for the fifth time in early July 2010 as one of 24 qualifiers for the state title.<ref name="orgn100712"/><ref name="pdxm101221"/> Steers' competition talent was a vocal performance of the Bonnie Raitt song "Something to Talk About". Her platform was "Knowledge is Power! Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention".<ref name="msam2010"/><ref name="becn110310"/>
Steers won the competition on Saturday, July 10, 2010, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Oregon titleholder CC Barber.<ref name="orgn100712"/> She earned more than $10,000 in scholarship money and other prizes from the state pageant. As Miss Oregon, her activities included public appearances across the state of Oregon.<ref name="orgn110322"/> Steers' reign continued until July 2, 2011, when she crowned her successor, Caroline McGowan, Miss Oregon 2011.<ref name="oreg110702"/>
Vying for Miss America
Steers was Oregon's representative at the Miss America 2011 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, in January 2011.<ref name="pdxm101221"/><ref name="msam2010"/> During the pageant's Miss America Parade, Steers wore a swimsuit and swim cap made from recycled bicycle tire inner tubes.<ref name="orgn110313"/> She placed in the Top 15 as a semi-finalist and earned a $4,000 scholarship award.<ref name="msam11sc"/> Steers was one of two competitors voted into the semi-finals by her fellow competitors, not by the judges or the public.<ref name="tday110116"/>
Personal life and education
Steers is a native of Klamath Falls, Oregon, who spent her childhood in Medford and is a 2004 graduate of North Medford High School.<ref name="dast060622"/><ref name="msam11na"/><ref name="dlnt111115"/> Her father is Dennis Steers and her mother is Dori Steers.<ref name="dlnt120329"/> Steers married Christopher West on December 31, 2011.<ref name="dlnt120329"/>
After high school, Steers enrolled at Rogue Community College.<ref name="dast060622"/> She then became a student at the Oregon Institute of Technology, where she earned her bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, graduating in 2009.<ref name="dlnt111115"/>
At the Miss America pageant, she told the judges that her career ambition was to become a pediatric dentist.<ref name="msam11na"/> , she is a dental hygenist in Aloha, Oregon.<ref name="dlnt120329"/>
