Career Fashion Designer It was in his junior year of high school that he also conceived of his clothing line TONY WANG. Having been inspired from a trip to his birth state of New York, he began to create a concept portfolio of men's pieces inspired by the motifs of waves and roots. After he created the portfolio, he decided to try to get it created by a manufacturer. Through his various cold calls and efforts, he was able to secure a meeting with the president of a large Shenzhen based clothing manufacturer. The president was highly impressed by the portfolio but could not create any clothing unless Tony had also done the design specifications. Since Tony had no technical background, he could not offer the president such specifications. Tony was determined to create his clothing line so he self-taught himself design specifications and other technical aspects of fashion by going online and reading free, online fashion design resources such as lecture slides from fashion schools indexed by Google. He spent a year learning how to create pieces and translating his collection into design specs over the course of his senior year. After teaching himself the art of fashion design, he re-contacted the manufacturer and was able to get his pieces created. His first collection, entitled 3st, consists of five pieces of urban wear for men and women and was launched in March 2009.
