Lamar Joseph Conner is an American ex-soldier who received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Life
Conner originates from Altha, Florida. He came to Germany as an US Army soldier and stayed there after his service ended. He was working as a ticketing agent for Ibero Airport Service at the Frankfurt Airport. During the 2011 Frankfurt Airport shooting on 2 March 2011, where two US-soldiers were killed and two others wounded, Conner was standing near the attacked bus. When the perpetrator Arid Uka tried to flee, Conner followed him together with Staff Sergeant Trevor Donald Brewer and warned other bystanders until Uka was arrested by German police forces.
According to German police officers the arrest of Uka was mainly driven by the courageous actions of the civilian Conner and Staff Sergeant Brewer.
Conner received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in a ceremony on 16 January 2012. Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich presented the decoration, citing Conners ″exemplary courage and action which helped the Federal Police arrest the suspect".
