Playing career
Ramsey began his professional career with the North York Astros of the Canadian Professional Soccer League in 2001. He made his debut on May 27, 2001 in a 2-0 victory over the York Region Shooters. Ramsey would quickly establish himself as a first team starter, where he would primarily play as a central defender. Ramsey was named in the CPSL Selects squad for the friendly match against Morocco national under-23 football team. The match was played on July 6, 2001 and resulted in a 1-1 tie. He was also named into the CPSL All Star squad that faced Marítimo and the match resulted in 4-0 victory over the CPSL All Stars. Despite his efforts the Astros failed to clinch a spot in the postseason. On October 14, 2001 at the CPSL annual awards banquet he was awarded the CPSL Defender of the Year award, becoming the second Astros player to receive this award. He scored his first Astros goal in a match against the Vaughan Sun Devils in 1-1 tie. Though the Astros failed to secure to a playoff spot nonetheless they were given wild card match, because at the time the league's rules permitted the hosting club a playoff berth. In the playoffs Ramsey helped the Astros defeat the Mississauga Olympians in a 3-0 victory. The victory advanced the Astros to the semifinals where once again the North York side claimed victory over the Toronto Croatia, this marked the Astros first Rogers Cup finals appearance since they joined the CPSL. Unfortunately for Ramsey and his Astros teammates they finished runners up after losing to Eastern conference champions Ottawa Wizards. On October 20, 2002 Ramsey was awarded the North York Astros Player of the Year award.
During the CPSL 2005 season Ramsey helped the Astros set an all time record for a eight game undefeated streak, and helped the team qualify for the playoffs. But unfortunately during their playoff run the Astros were eliminated by Toronto Croatia in the wild card match, with the game ending 1-0 in favor of Toronto. In the 2007 season Ramsey helped the Astros qualify for the playoffs, but where eliminated in the quarterfinal match against Toronto Croatia. The following season Ramsey didn't renew his contract with the Astros due to personal reasons. On July 6, 2009 Ramsey made his return in a 2-2 draw versus the St. Catharines Wolves; he contributed by helping the Astros achieve their first point of the 2009 season. Despite taking a whole year off he secured himself a position on the first team squad under head coach Vladimir Klinovsky. Though the Astros did overwhelmingly improve under Klinovsky leadership, it was not enough to secure the final playoff spot. The Astros would end up finishing second last in the National Division, eight points behind the final playoff spot. In total Ramsey appeared in 13 matches for the Astros throughout the 2009 season.
