Story
In the glorious history of Teikou Middle School basketball team, there is still a team called the "strongest", a generation with five players called "The Generation of Miracles". However, there's still a person those 5 players acknowledge as superior, and that is Kuroko Tetsuya, "The Phantom". Now, each one of them has joined a different high school, and so the race to being the #1 has begun. Kuroko decided to go to Seirin high school and now, along with his teammate Kagami Taiga, they are determined to go for the top.

;Kuroko Tetsuya
: The protagonist. A player nicknamed "The Phantom" because his presence is unnoticed most of the time. Although not being a regular, he was the sixth man in Teikou, playing along with "The Generation of Miracles". He's 168cm tall and weights 57kg, and all his abilities (power, speed and flexibility) seem to be below average. Despite being apparently bad at dribbling and shooting, he's specialized in circulating passes without being seen thanks to his lack of presence. He decided to be a "supporting actor", a shadow, to make Kagami (the "light") the number one in Japan.
;Kagami Taiga
: Kagami was in America until second year of middle school and has recently come back to Japan. He's 190cm tall and weights 82kg. He is determined to surpass "The Generation of Miracles" and become the number 1. Along with Kuroko, they're the only two freshmen allowed to play in matches.
;Aida Riko
: The coach. Her father is a sports trainer who was always recording data from the players to make training menus. After spending every day at her father's worplace looking at muscles and data, she has developed the skill to see all abilities and stats of a player by looking at his body.
;Hyuuga Junpei
: Second year player. Captain of the team.
;Takeda
: Advisor of the team.
Kaijou High School
;Kise Ryouta
: A member of "The Generation of Miracles". He's become really popular with girls after appearing in a magazine. He started playing basketball in second year of middle school and thanks to his built and sense of play, he became a regular in Teikou soon. He's an all-rounder (multi-task player). When he met with Seirin team for the first time, he admitted that he's the weakest of "The Generation of Miracles".
