Born in San Diego, California, Wagner began performing at the age of 11, when she joined her first competitive cheer squad. She also became active in her high school’s dance and musical theater programs. In 1999, Wagner attended San Diego State University, where she continued competitive cheerleading, with her school's team, and with the West Coast Mavericks All-Stars. She earned a B.A. in Communications in 2003 and moved to Los Angeles. She appeared in commercials and also danced professionally.
