Kidlington Royals Football Club
|
Kidlington Royals F.C. is an association football club based in Kidlington, near Oxford, England. They are the village's only Sunday league football club but play their home matches in the neighbouring village of Bletchington at the Lift and Shift Arena. They are sponsored by Tex Cars and Coaches Ltd. The club is affiliated to the Oxfordshire Football Association. Club History Kidlington Royals Football Club was originally established in 2004 as the Black Horse Kidlington and joined the Upper Thames Valley League in the same year. The club changed its name To Kidlington Royals the following season. The club was initially managed by Martin Willoughby, who lead the club to some early successes after a difficult first season in Division 3A. They quickly won promotion the following season and this was followed by another promotion the season after which saw The Royals in the top division after only 3 years. Kidlington Royals were to remain in the top division until demoted with the formation of the Upper Thames Valley League Premier Division, despite finishing well above the relegation zone. This led to a difficult time for the Royals with many of the star players signing elsewhere in the pursuit of top flight Sunday league football. Liam Walker took over as manager of the club in 2010 and guided them to 8th in division 1 of the Upper Thames Valley League. They also reached the quarter final stages of the Oxfordshire Football Association Sam Waters Challenge Cup. In 2011, Liam Walker was joined by Paul Woodburn in a joint management partnership. The football club was restructured from top to bottom in order to make it financially sustainable, with new sponsorship deals, a club website and social media ventures along with a new structure and investment at boardroom level. New players of a high quality were signed from some of the top football clubs in Oxfordshire. As a result, Kidlington Royals went the entire league season with a perfect winning record, winning the league and gaining promotion back to the Premier division of the Upper Thames Valley League. They also reached the final of the Oxfordshire Football Association Sam Waters Challenge Cup, losing 3-2 after extra time to Highfield.
