Jorge Gracie, a son of Gastão Gracie Sr., was one of the original practitioners of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Early in his career, Jorge assisted at the very first Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy, opened by his brother Carlos Gracie in 1925. Later, Jorge was known as a widely-traveled instructor throughout Brazil, teaching students in a particular location until they reached a skilled level, then moving on to another area. Although few records remain from this time period, the following matches are known or alleged: *On October 24, 1931, Jorge defeated Capoeira fighter Jayme Martins Ferreira with an armlock *In December of 1931, Jorge defeated Capoeira fighter Mario Aleixo with a quick armbar *Jorge defeated Japanese Judoka Geo Omori after a 10 round fight Legacy Jorge died in 1991, leaving behind several daughters but no sons.<ref name=BBmag/>
