Jordan Mendes

Jordan Mendes is a former drug dealer from Centerville, Massachusetts who was murdered by his half-brother and his friend when he was sixteen years old. At the time of his death, he was attending Barnstable High School.
Early life
Jordan Mendes was born in 1992 in Hyannis, Massachusetts to Paula Carberry, and Manual Mendes. His father as well as his uncle were convicted drug dealers.<ref name="Huffington" /> He grew up as normal a life as his parents could provide for him until his dad was convicted of selling cocaine when Jordan was 8. His father was then ordered to serve 8-10 years. In 2002, following his jailing, he was convicted of selling drugs behind bars, and ordered to serve 35 more years.<ref name="Huffington" /> Becoming the man of the family made a young Jordan want to take over the family business. In 2004, his uncle Daniel was murdered in Hyannis.<ref name="Huffington" />
Murder
On December 15, 2008, Jordan was over a friend's house in Hyannis when he was invited downstairs.<ref name="Huffington" /> As he was walking down, Robert Vacher, a cousin, shot him in the back. After he fell down the stairs, Vacher and his two friends Mykel Mendes, 13, Jordan Mendes' half brother; and Kevin Ribeiro, 13, realized that he was still alive.<ref name="Huffington" /> Panicked, Robert ordered the two boys to finish him off. The two boys then stabbed Jordan 27 times, eventually killing him.<ref name="Huffington" /> He was then robbed of the $10,000 that was on him and the three went out to buy a silver BMW.<ref name="Huffington" />
After the group purchased the car, they came back to the house, rolled Jordan's body into a rug, and drove to Jennifer Lane, to dispose of the body.<ref name="Huffington" /> They had knowledge of a 10 by 15 foot hole that was 8 feet deep, and they dumped Jordan's body in there. The next day, they dumped his body into a pit and proceeded to pour gasoline over him.<ref name="Huffington" /> They then lit his body on fire.
On December 16, his still smoldering body was discovered by friends of his mother who went out looking for him after he didn't return home from school.<ref name="Huffington" />
Reaction
Reaction to the murder of Jordan was immediate shock in a community where murders are uncommon.<ref name="Huffington" />
It was later revealed after the arrest of Robert, Mykel and Kevin that Mykel had been planning the takeover of the family business because he was jealous at the amount of money that Jordan was bringing in.<ref name="Huffington" />
