John Paulett

John Paulett is an American writer, educator, and actor known for popular histories of Chicago and for accomplishments in the fields of teaching and teacher training.
Recognition
Paulett received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Education in May 2013, The Heart of the School Award for Teaching, and the President's Award from Antioch College. He was named Most Inspirational Teacher by Western Illinois University and was a finalist for the Alumni Service Award at Antioch University. Paulett is part of the Theology / Expressive Arts Faculty at Fenwick High School and is Adjunct Faculty at National Louis University in Chicago, IL.
Publications
Paulett is the author of Lost Chicago (with Judy Floodstrand), Forgotten Chicago, Printers Row, and Pentecost, Peanuts, Popcorn and Prayer.
Lost Chicago was published in 2012 with co-author Judy Floodstrand by Pavilion. Their book pays homage to the iconic structures that defined Chicago as a powerhouse of architecture and the birthplace of Modern architecture. Lee Bey from WBEZ interviews Floodstrand and Paulett in November 2012 shortly after the publication of their book. Rick Kogan also mentions "Lost Chicago" in a 2013 article for the Chicago Tribune addressing a number of historical texts relating to Chicago's architectural history.
Published in 2004 by Acadia Publishing Forgotten Chicago records the stories of Chicago's architectural legacy lost to the fates of time and the unrelenting march of modernization. Theater / Actor
John Paulett has appeared on stage in Chicago and Cleveland. His play In the Case of Henry Tandy was produced in Chicago. Paulett's acting work includes the short comedy The European Kid, All my Life (Buckeye Tree), Three Sisters (Big Group) and Electra (Bohemian Theatre Ensemble).
Terrain Exhibitions
In addition to his work as a writer, educator and actor Paulett co-directs Terrain Exhibitions an artist run project space in Oak Park, Illinois with Sabina Ott. Terrain Exhibitions differs from most artist run or "apartment spaces" insofar as the artists works are exhibited outdoors in the front yard and are accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Ott and Paulett invite artists to create interventions into the conventional or traditional idea of what a front yard should be and how it might function. Ott and Paulett ask artists to consider the differences between private and public space and explore intersections between decoration and utility. Terrain Exhibitions is located across from Longfellow School in Oak Park, at the intersection of Highland and Jackson Avenues.
Education
Paulett has earned a B.S. in Linguistics from Georgetown University, and M.A. in Theology from Felician College, and an M.F.A in Creative Writing from Antioch University.
He is married to artist Sabina Ott and lives in Oak Park, Illinois.
