John G. Brunner

John G. Brunner (born December 8, 1951) is an American politician from Missouri currently seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. He serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Vi-Jon Corporation, a private label personal care products manufacturing company founded in 1908 by his grandparents, Viola and John B. Brunner, and makers of such well-known brands as Germ-X.
On October 3, 2011 Brunner announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate.
He is seeking the Republican nomination against former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, and Congressman Todd Akin. The winner will face Democrat incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill in the general election.
John Brunner and his wife Jan Brunner have been married for 35 years. Together, they have raised three children and have six grandchildren.
Education
Brunner completed his undergraduate work at Harding University and received his MBA at the John M. Olin School of Business Administration at Washington University in St. Louis. His life-long passion in the study of economics began in the early 1970′s under the instruction of Leonard E. Reed at the Foundation of Economic Education in New York.
Career
United States Marine Corps
After graduating from college, Brunner volunteered for the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Corps, he elevated through the ranks and completed his military service as a Captain. In his years of service, he was a part of joint operations with numerous NATO allies and had deployments in the North Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean as a member of the “contingency reaction force.”
Vi-Jon
Brunner started at his family's company at a young age. His earliest positions involved operating forklifts, loading trailers, repairing production lines, and mixing millions of gallons of raw materials. As he grew older, he began traveling the country selling Vi-Jon products and expanding sales across the United States and the world. Eventually, he rose to the rank of CEO where he served until 2009.
Brunner now holds the honorary position of Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors.
2012 U.S. Senate Campaign
On October 3rd, Brunner officially announced his candidacy for the United States Senate at an announcement event at Vi-Jon. In his remarks he discussed the need to get America working again and his belief that the Obama Administration in partnership with current Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill had set the country on the wrong path.
