2012 U.S. Senate campaign
On November 23, 2010, it was reported that Scaringi had officially filed his Statement of Candidacy to seek the Republican nomination for .
Scaringi brought attention to the TSA airport security debacle when he released a letter that he had written to the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. He received a phone call from the office of the secretary in follow up to the letter demanding the immediate halt to full body scan searches that had been enacted nationwide by the Transportation Security Agency just prior to the busy 2010 Thanksgiving travel season. The letter was made public and published by several media and online sources. Scaringi stated that the "TSA policy raises grave questions and may violate the 4th Amendment right of Americans to be protected from unreasonalbe searches."
In December 2010, Scaringi attended the 112th Annual Pennsylvania Society dinner in New York, garnering attention from Marcellus Shale industry leaders for his articles denouncing President Obama's plan for eliminating certain tax benefits for oil and gas firms and a bill introduced by Casey calling for nationalizing regulation of of Marcellus Shale extraction. The negative economic effect of the president's tax policy, according to a study by LSU economist Joseph Mason, would include eliminating "154,000 U.S. jobs from 2001 through 2012, with more than 5,300 jobs lost in Pennsylvania and more than 40,000 during the next 10 years." Pennsylvania governor elect Tom Corbett, like Scaringi, is in favor of natural gas drilling in the Commonwealth as a means for reinvigorating the state's economy but with an eye toward maintaining environmental protections.
