Eikeland was a county council candidate for the Labour Party and stood in the 8th place on the Labour Party list for the 2011 elections. Eikeland also worked as a teacher of adult education one day a week. He has held key speeches at the 2009 and 2011 Labour Party conferences.
He died in the 2011 Utøya massacre.
After death
On 24 July, during a mass in the Oslo Cathedral, Tore Eikeland was mentioned by Jens Stoltenberg: "Another one who is gone is Tore Eikeland. Eikeland was the leader of the AUF in Bergen and one of our most talented young politicians. I remember he got all the national congress of the Labour Party to cheer when he gave a stirring speech against the EU postal directive and won the debate. Now he is dead. Gone forever. It is incomprehensible."
