Johannes Petterson

Johannes Petterson (born 5 February 1818 at Ränken in Trankil, Årjäng Municipality, Sweden) was a Swedish-born foundry master in Halden and owner of Veden Manor in Tistedalen from 1851. The manor was later sold to the consortium which formed Saugbrugsforeningen, a corporate trust consisting of the leading sawmill and forest owners in this region of Norway.
He immigrated to Norway on 12 October 1844 with his first wife Märtha Persdotter (born 1823 in Skenhall), and worked at Eidsfos Verk before settling in Halden. After the death of his first wife, he was married from 1855 to Grethe Caroline Harridsleff (born 1829 in Berg), a daughter of the Halden merchant Peter Harridsleff and a granddaughter of Peter Ulrik Magnus Hount, one of the fathers of the constitution of Norway. His oldest daughter Nora Martha Petersen (born 1845) was married to Theodor Christian Haagaas, managing director of the sawmills of Saugbrugsforeningen. His second oldest daughter Emilie Petersen (born 1849) was married to managing director of the Cathrineholm Iron Works Robert Edgren, a son of captain August Edgren and Göthilda Laura af Geijerstam. His daughter from the second marriage Elise Marie Hount Petersen (born 1857) was married to barrister, war attorney and mayor of Halden Hans Peter Edvind Johannesen. Johannes Petterson was the maternal grandfather of the private school owner Theodor Haagaas and of Karin Hount Johannesen (1887-1971), married to estate owner and count Georg Trolle-Wachtmeister (1884-1971) of Maderup, Scania. Johannes Petterson's descendants also include the publisher Henrik Groth, the resistance member Henriette Bie Lorentzen, Labour and Welfare Director Joakim Lystad, the pilot Andreas Wyller, Tone Bjørneboe (the wife of Jens Bjørneboe), and the theatre critic Therese Bjørneboe.
In the 1865 census, he lived in Northern Tistedalen with his second wife, three daughters, two domestic servants and five apprentices.
