Jim Braden

Jim Braden (born Eugene Hale Brading) was a suspect in the John F. Kennedy assassination, and is a major figure in conspiracy theories surrounding the president's murder.
Braden had an extensive criminal record, having been arrested on numerous occasions for embezzlement, burglary, and illegal bookmaking. After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Braden was taken into custody for "acting suspiciously" in the Dal-Tex Building, which overlooked Dealey Plaza. Braden was seen on the third floor of the building, which offered an unobstructed vantage point of the motorcade.

On the day of the assassination, an elevator operator in the Dal-Tex Building noticed an unknown man inside the building shortly after the shooting and notified the police. Braden was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning and held for three hours. Braden said he was in town on oil business, and had entered the building to make a telephone call to his mother after the president was shot, but other eyewitnesses saw him inside at the time the shots were actually fired. Eventually, Braden was released because Dallas police had no way of knowing he was actually Eugene Brading, a parolee with thirty-five arrests who had his name legally changed on September 10, two months before the shooting.

In 1968, Braden was interviewed by the Los Angeles Police Department because of his presence in Los Angeles on the night that Robert Kennedy was murdered.
Innocence

Braden testified before the House Select Committee on Assassinations, and even filed a lawsuit in an effort to clear his name. Braden's lawyer, Kenneth Trombly, wrote in 2000 of Braden's innocence, "If he were really involved in some way... wouldn't he have tried to disappear into anonymity, rather than bring a lawsuit AND request an opportunity to be questioned by a Congressional committee? I haven't a clue as to his whereabouts. But it would somehow not surprise me if he were alive." It is currently not known whether Braden is alive or dead.
