Jessica Doyle

Jessica Laird Doyle, (born 1945), is 44th First Lady of the State of Wisconsin, the wife of Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. Her husband, Jim Doyle was elected as Wisconsin’s Governor in 2002 and reelected in 2006 with more votes than any candidate for Governor in Wisconsin history.
Early life and education
Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Doyle attended Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 1976, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
After graduating from college, Doyle, along with her husband, future-governor Jim Doyle, joined the Peace Corps and taught English to high school students in Tunisia, Africa. In her career, Mrs. Doyle has taught elementary, middle, and high school students. She continued her teaching career in New Mexico and Madison, Wisconsin.
Doyle is the niece of former Congressman Melvin R. Laird, and great-granddaughter of William D. Connor, who was Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin from 1907-1909.
First Lady of Wisconsin
Her key initiatives focus on excellence in education, literacy, and the promotion of state pride and culture. She regularly visits schools and educational programs across the state to showcase excellence in education at all levels. Doyle created an online game for students, “Where in Wisconsin is Jessica Doyle?” that encourages students to learn more about the state’s history, geography and tourist destinations. Doyle also launched “Read On Wisconsin,” a statewide online book club that promotes reading and writing for students in elementary, middle, and high school. Doyle regularly hosts "Reading Days at the Residence," which offer students the opportunity to visit the Executive Residence to read with the first lady and to participate in book discussions with visiting authors.
In addition to her duties as first lady, Mrs. Doyle serves as the honorary chair of the Governor's Council on Financial Literacy.
Personal
The Doyles have two sons, Gus and Gabe, a daughter-in-law Carrie, a grandson Asiah, and granddaughter Lily.
