Jared High

Jared Benjamin High (September 23, 1985 - September 29, 1998) was a 6th grade student who committed suicide whilst suffering from depression, after being the target of bullying in Washington state. He was attacked by a another student (known as Andrew S) at McLoughlin Middle School on May 6, 1998, leaving him with injuries which required medical treatment. Both were suspended from school for three days. Jared committed suicide some months afterwards, which publicly raised awareness of the dangers of bullying and its effects.
Brenda High v. Pasco School District
Brenda High, Jared's mother, filed a lawsuit against the Pasco School District. It claimed "the defendant District (school district) and defendants S. and H. (bully's parents) were negligent in their supervision and discipline of Andrew S., and that the District negligently investigated the assault and wrongfully punished equally the perpetrator and the victim."
