Jesuadimai Emmanuel Arulraj (better known as J. E. Arulraj) is an Indian educationalist and Catholic Priest ,best known as the founder and chancellor of St. Joseph University in Tanzania, St. Joseph University Nagaland, St. Eugene's University and St. John the Baptist University. Early life The founder of the Society of Daughters of Mary Immaculate and Collaborators (DMI), Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (MMI) and Associate Movement International (AMI) is Rev. Fr. Dr. J.E Jesu Adimai Emmanuel Arulraj OMI. He was born in Rajakkamangalamthurai in Kanyakumari District in the southern tip of Tamil Nadu in India. His father, Mr. Jesu Adimai popularly known as Muthiah was a School Headmaster and his mother Late. Cecilea commonly known as Muthamma was a house-wife. He was born with nine siblings of whom three are no more. Vocation Arulraj was called by one Fr. Emmanuel OMI to join the Seminary. He made his first profession on 31 May 1974. On 8 September 1979, he made his final commitment. He has completed Bachelor degrees in Philosphy and Theology. He is also a graduate in Mass Communication. First Mission He was ordained as an Oblate priest on 21 December 1979. He volunteered to go to difficult missions. He went to a remote parish in Tiruvallur District by name Pandaravedu, a parish abandoned by the Diocesan priests and refused to be taken up by any priest. He accepted the mission. His service was handicapped as there were not many co-workers. The others whom he persuaded and brought also couldn’t stay for more than a week. Establishment of DMI He was inspired to establish a Society of Apostolic Life for women and 21 women spontaneously and readily responded by offering themselves to God and the service of People. Thus was born the Society of Daughters of Mary Immaculate and Collaborators in Pandaravedu on 28 January 1984. The first three batches of Sisters were struggled a lot to sustain their livelihood. And so they were called as "Founding Members" and also as "Co-Founders". He obtained the Honorary Doctorate degree from the International Tamil University, Maryland, USA. Establishment of MMI During his visit to Brazil to meet his brother Rev. Fr. Jesudhas Fernando and his missionary companions in 1990, Fr. Arulraj was asked by His Grace Most Rev. Vitorio Pavanello SDB if he could start a missionary Society for priests. It was after seven years, He accepted the Call and in the year 1998, the missionary society for priests “Missionaries of Mary Immaculate” came to be. His favourite quote is "I am at the business of the Father". Establishment of AMI Associate Movement International is a socio-spiritual movement with the basic approach to keep open God’s Kingdom for all men and women of various faiths. Rev. Fr. Dr. J.E. Arulraj launched a movement called “Associate Movement International” on 17-11-2010 during the MMI Second General Chapter. Establishment of DFT DMI Foundations is a strategic organisation established by Rev Fr Dr J.E Arulraj OMI to facilitate the strengthening and development of the Charism, the well-being of the members of the societies and by sharpening the vision, along with lay collaborators and experts through the effective management of the above societies through safeguarding, developing, managing and administering the resources which are his patrimony, left in the form of investments, deposit, lands and institutions.
