Latha Rajendran

Latha Rajendran is a Special Educator from Chennai.
Early life
Latha was born on 30th January 1962 to Mrs. Shanti and Mr. P.Narayanan (brother of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran) in Erode District in Tamil Nadu. She was brought up by Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran and Mr. M.G. Ramachandran during her childhood.
Education
She did her primary and high school at Sacred Heart Girls Matriculation School, Mount Road, Chennai. She went on to do her Tenth and Eleventh in St. Ebba's Girls High School, Radhakrishnan Road, Mylapore. She did her PUC and B.Sc in Home Science and Nutrition from the Women's Christian College, Chennai. She went on to do B.Ed., M.Ed.,M.A (Sociology), M.Phil (Education), M.H.R.M (Human Resourse Management),Senior Diploma in Teaching the Deaf and Diploma in Public Relations. Latha also has done a course in Early intervention of the Deaf and inherant teaching from Galaudette University, Washington, D.C. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in the Department of Education, in the prestigious University of Madras, Chennai. She has traveled to many countries around the world to study the methodology of education followed in those regions as a part of her research. The countries include Great Britain, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland, France, United States of America and the former USSR.
Classical & Cultural Activities
Latha is a student of Bharatanrityam (a form of Indian Dance & Dramatics) under the renowed Dr.Padma Subramaniam. She has received Nritya Praveshika Certificate from Nrityodya. She was also a devoted Carnatic Music student who underwent training from Late Shri. Srirangam Krishnamorthy Rao. She was instrumental in starting M.A.Natya - a five year intergrated course in Indian Performing Arts (Dance, Music and Theatre) in Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women. This course is presently affiliated to the University of Madras.
Career
Latha is the Secrerary and Principal of the Dr. MGR Home and Higher Secondary School for the Speech and hearing Impaired, the Secretary and Correspondent of Dr.MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women. She received the prize for the best teacher for the Hearing Impaired from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1996. Latha is the niece of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Janaki Ramachandran. She was the former principal of Janaki Ramachandran Kalalayam Matriculation Higher Secondary School (JRK), Vadapalani, Chennai for more than a decade till 1994. Latha was also involved in the management of MGR Higher Secondary School and MGR Primary School in Kodambakkam from 1978 to 1991 and was the President of the Silver Jubilee Celebration committee in 1984. She was one of the founder member of the Janaki Ramachandran Educational and Charitable trust, Vadapalani founded by her mother. She is an active Rotarian and was the President of the Rotary Club of Madras Porur - Rotary Dist 3230 for the year 2003. She is currently the District Co-Chairman Family Participation - Rotary District 3230. She is also the Secretary of the National Council of Educators of the Deaf(NCED), India which is the apex association of the teachers of the hearing impaired of India.
Family
Latha was married to Mr.M.Rajendran who is a post graduate alumnus in Mechnanical Engineering from prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Madras(Chennai). Daugher Dr.Selvi Sriram who is a Dermotologist is married to Industralist Mr.R.Sriram. Son Dr.Kumar Rajendran is a Doctorate in Business Administration,and with a background in Computer Science and Engineering. He also holds a M.Phil Degree in Public Admistration and a under graduate degree in Library and Information Science. He is currently persuing his undergraduation in law. Kumar is married to Ms.Praneetha a software engineer. Latha has a great grand daughter(daughter of Selvi & Sriram) Ms.Sujana (nearly 2 years old)
Ambitions
Latha wants to set up a university exclusively for the Hearing Impaired in chennai. She also wants to set up early intervention centers all over tamil nadu for the hearing impaired.
