Isabel Fiadeiro

Isabel Fiadeiro is an artist from London, England who paints and sketches. She was brought up in Portugal and became interested in the country of Mauritania and the Sahara Desert. She sought out to paint and sketch its culture and landscape. Her deep interest in painting the culture influenced her to move to Mauritania where she continues to live today running an art gallery.
Early Life/Education
Fiadeiro is born in London, England but is brought up in Portugal. She decides to go to Wimbledon School of Art and get an art education. She continues sketching and drawing and then discovers Mauritania and the Sahara desert.
Mauritania
Mauritania becomes a large influence to Fiadeiro who once seeing both places decides to move to Nouakchott, Mauritania and began sketching its culture. She is influenced to paint and draw her surroundings as well as the landscape. She enjoys drawing people and the community around her. Not only does she draw the beautiful aspect of the country but also the hardships such as refugee camps. Fiadeiro likes to paint the things that produce change very quickly to show how things quickly change or disappear. Sheruns a gallery called Galerie Sinaa that works on promoting art from Mauratania and other West African countries.
Style and Technique
When painting Fiadeiro sometimes like leaving paintings to intentionally look unfinished. Sometimes they are given a rough like to texture to remind the viewers of a desert like texture. Her sketches are often rough but with color showing the people, markets, etc.
Artistic Legacy
Fiadeiro works to promote the art of local artisans and other West African countries. By sketching and painting the things in the country she helps spread the culture of the country she lives in. Not only is she producing art herself but shes helping spread the art of other local artist in the country.
