Irish Jimmy Smith

Irish Jimmy Smith (January 23, 1930 - September 26, 2013) was a boxer from Boston, Massachusetts who moved to Oakland, California with his wife Betty in the mid 50's to continue his professional boxing career. Smith was managed by Jack (Curly) Mendonca. Smith was in the Lightweight division and was a seasoned fighter when he boxed International Boxing Hall of Famer Jimmy Carter in 1959 in Richmond, California. He also fought and lost to Chico Santos as well as Vic Cardot.
Smith's wife Betty died January 22, 2000, and he died of pneumonia in Hayward, California, on September 26, 2013. He is survived by his two daughters Betty Yammarino and Kimberly Walker and his two sons Musician Jimmy Smith Jr. a.k.a. Jimmy Crucifix and youngest son Tony Smith who had been caring for Irish Jimmy Smith who had been suffering from Alzheimer's the last few years of his life.
