The International genome project (IGP) is a personal genomics and biotechnology non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Canada and at the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, United States. The IGP was founded January 01, 2010 to develop new methods and technologies that will enable individuals and patients to understand their genetic information as well as new ways of accelerating research in the field. Accordingly, it "aims to be a model for the ethical, legal and responsible implementation of genome-informed personalized medicine". The current cost of the IGP service is $299 for health predisposition. This is significantly more affordable than 23andme's $499 product or Navigenic's $995 product. Service Model The IGP does not benefit commercially from selling its service. Instead a patient wishing to use its services must purchase the DNA collection kit from Genetic Testing Laboratories, Inc. , a third party laboratory. The IGP aims to recruit 25,000 individuals in 2010. It is currently accepting new participants and delivering the results within approximately 15 business days.
