Stephen Munson (born January 21, 1944) is an Oregon-based geothermal energy entrepreneur and green power developer. In 1991, he founded the Vulcan Power Company, which intends to develop geothermal power facilities in the Western United States. Munson remained at the head of the company through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 1995 and continued to serve as the company's CEO until late 2008. In 2008, Merrill Lynch and Denham Capital invested a combined $190 million in Vulcan. Munson brought in the investment and received more than $15 Million in personal compensation, but fell afoul of the new management group, was investigated by the board for numerous offenses and was fired as CEO. He is currently involved in a lawsuit against Vulcan Power regarding the process that was used to remove him as CEO. Munson has an MA in Political Science from Stanford University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a former U.S. Army captain.
