Indian Institute of Technology Muddenahalli

Indian Institute of Technology Muddenahalli, also known as IIT Muddenahalli, is a proposed autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institute of higher education. The campus is nestled between Muddenahalli and Kanivenarayanapura in the Nandi Hills region at the outskirts of Devanahalli in North Bangalore. This is the first IIT to be approved for Karnataka and the third IIT in South India.
History

Veerappa Moily, the Minister of Law, Justice, and Company Affairs and Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, fiercely lobbied for the establishment of an IIT in Muddenahalli, birthplace of legendary Engineer and Statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya. The Indian Institute of Technology Muddenahalli is to be the 16th IIT in India and has received preliminary approval from the cabinet and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Construction is set to be commenced soon and will be completed around 2012.

The institute campus will be spread over of prime commercial land near the recently approved BIAL IT Investment Region. It will be situated overlooking the recently expanded 8 lane NH7, the upcoming 600 crore Sri Visvesvaraya Institute of Advanced Technology, 70 crore Silk City, Olympic Quality Sports village, and the Sri Sathya Sai University and School of Medicine.
