StoneHill International School

The StoneHill International School, Bangalore, India a school is being designed to expand to a full Nursery to Grade 12 institution within the first four years of operation. School is planning to be opening the first all-IB school in Bangalore, India.

The School
Stonehill International School is a private, co-educational, secular, day school that will open on a 33 acre campus in August 2008. It will seek PYP, MYP and DP authorization by the International Baccalaureate Organization as soon as their procedures allow. Enrollment in August of 2008 will be limited to grades Kindergarten to Grade 8 and is expected to be around 150 students. The school is being designed to expand to a full Nursery to Grade 12 institution within the first four years of operation. The school is being founded by the Embassy Group of Bangalore, a highly experienced and accomplished developer of business parks and office space for such multi-national companies as IBM, Microsoft, Google, Goldman Sachs and Fidelity. Stonehill International School is seen by the Embassy Group as providing a much needed amenity for the children of the multinational companies expanding operations in the city. Community support for excellence in education, as exemplified by the open ended learning typical of the IB philosophy, has encouraged the Embassy Group to provide the land and a substantial investment in buildings and infrastructure to make Stonehill International School a center for regional excellence in international education.

The Mission
Stonehill International School is an independent educational institution catering to the needs of the English-speaking community, offering the full IB curricula and a teaching methodology that prepares students for admission to American and international colleges and universities. The school will support a welcoming, supportive and safe environment. All students will develop a love of learning and have outlets to nurture their curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. The commitment to excellence at all levels of the school will provide our graduates with the confidence, self-discipline and courage to face the global challenges of the new century. While developing a
comprehensive foundation in the core academic subjects, Stonehill International School will use the PYP and MYP curriculum options to encourage and develop rich programmes in the sciences, the fine and practical arts, design and computer technology. Our students are given a special understanding and appreciation of Indian language,literature and culture and will all become proficient in the use of a second language.

Governance
Stonehill International School is owned by Embassy Knowledge Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd, a division of the Embassy Group. The school will be operated by a non-profit operating company set up with an independent Board of Trustees who will be in charge of all operational and educational decisions regarding the school. The Council of International Schools (CIS) has been engaged as consultants for the set-up and construction period and will continue to advise for the first two years of the school's operations. CIS will have a seat on the Board of Trustees.

Facilities
The school is being built on a green field site in the northwest corner of the city, a few km to the west of the main road to the new Bangalore International Airport. The campus sits on 33 acres of rolling countryside, and in the first phase of construction will have classroom blocks for 870 students, for three form entry from Nursery to Grade 12. There will be a purpose built science, art and technology centre, large library, gymnasium, cafeteria, full size auditorium and extensive playing fields, with all weather track, tennis courts and 25 m swimming pool. An extensive bus system will be developed to cover the northwest quadrant of the city.

Programme Of Studies
The school will be arranged in three divisions: Primary Years (Nursery through Grade 5), Middle Years (grades 6-10) and Diploma (grades 11-12). Each of the three IB Programmes will have a dedicated Programme Coordinator. The curriculum is based on the IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. The majority of students will take sufficient IB level courses and complete the additional requirements to qualify for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. In addition students in the high school will be able to satisfy course and distribution requirements to qualify for a Stonehill International School Diploma, the equivalent of a North American High School Diploma. The school will maintain a selective admissions policy and will offer ESL and Learning Support.

Faculty
Stonehill International School will open with approximately 22 instructional staff members. Approximately 25% will be locally hired Indian nationals whose experience and training make them competitive in an international school setting. Faculty and staff will be actively involved in sponsoring after-school activities which enhance students' experiences at school.
