IMPACT ANALYTICAL Impact Analytical is a research and testing laboratory that has been serving customers across a broad range of industries for more than 25 years. With more than 300 years of collective expertise on staff and 35,000 square feet of laboratory space, Impact provides a full range of testing services using leading-edge equipment and techniques. Located on the research campus of Michigan Molecular Institute (MMI) in Midland, Mich., Impact’s unique positioning provides access to one of the world’s largest polymer chemistry libraries and some of its most respected polymer experts as well. Projects performed at Impact Analytical include transactional/routine analysis; problem-solving; deformulation; consulting; litigation support; GLP/cGMP and regulatory testing; and long-term/outsourcing partnerships.
HISTORY Impact Analytical began its existence as the analytical testing arm of Michigan Molecular Institute in the early1970s before taking on regular outside business in the 1990s. MMI management, eager to make better use of equipment during downtime, issued the directive to make a successful spinout business, and Impact Analytical was launched. Bolstered by a strong commitment to delivering the industry’s best customer service, Impact Analytical has seen steady growth in the past several years, both in terms of revenues and customer base. With regard to its quality control, Impact Analytical is cGMP registered, GLP compliant, DEA licensed and ISO 9001:2000 certified. As of this writing, Impact Analytical remains a division of MMI.
COMPANY OVERVIEW Facts & Figures: • Average annual sales growth of more than 25 percent between 2005 and 2008 • 23 employees and consultants on staff, including 6 Ph.Ds. • cGMP registered, GLP compliant, DEA licensed and ISO 9001:2000 certified
TYPES OF TESTING SERVICES: • Failure Analysis • Problem Solving • Material Property Measurements • Actives Quantitation • Method Development • Deformulation/Reverse Engineering • Method Validation • Regulatory Testing • Stability Studies • Litigation Support • Materials Characterization • Unknown Component Identification • Impurity Analysis • Quality Control Testing • Complete Analytical Outsourcing • Polymer Characterization • Patent Infringement Support
IMPACT'S FIVE MAIN LABORATORIES: SEPARATIONS • Gas Chromatography (GC) - FID, MS, TCD Detection • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) - CAD, RI, DAD, ELS, UV-Vis, RI Detection • Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC/GPC) - RI and MALLS Detection • Titration - Acid/Base, Karl Fischer MOLECULAR CHARACTERIZATION • 400 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) - Proton, Carbon-13, Silicon-29, Solid State, Flourine-19 • GC-MS (EI & CI) • Direct probe MS (EI & CI) • Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) • Direct infusion ESI-MS • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) - ATR, Microscope • Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis) THERMAL/MECHANICAL • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) - Modulated, Pressure • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) • Thermomechanical analysis (TMA) • Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) • Zwick and MTS mechanical testing devices • Izod impact strength test • Rheometry MICROSCOPY (w/digital imaging) • Polarized light microscope • Stereomicroscope • Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) w/EDS • Atomic Force Microscope INORGANIC CHARACTERIZATION • ICP • XRF
MISSION Impact Analytical’s mission is to deliver customer-focused analytical expertise and problem-solving to its partners in industry that results in mutual success.
BUSINESS MODEL Impact Analytical’s business model is to find long-term win/win opportunities to fill client voids in analytical services. These voids might be in the needs for: • Problem-solving which is outside of the client’s internal technical capabilities • Project loads in excess of the client’s internal resources • Complete analytical laboratory outsourcing • Analytical/Research support of new product development
REFERENCES *Impact Analytical *Michigan Molecular Institute *[http://www.mmi.org/MMI%202005/web-content/GeneratedItems/images/07%20Ann%20Rep%20hi%20res05.pdf 2007 Michigan Molecular Institute Annual Report] *[http://www.mmi.org/MMI%202005/web-content/GeneratedItems/images/New%20Folder/07%20Annual%20Report/4-5.pdf 2006 Michigan Molecular Institute Annual Report]
