Ifyoulove.net

IfYouLove.net is a Canadian/American-based internet
community website, created in 2007. It is a Creative Commons
website which has coined the term peer-recommendation and is
adopts many of 's practices of being open for edits and
updates by its users, as well uses a Digg-like rating system.

IfYoulove.net is a unique website aiming to offer its users a
recommendations for various categories including music,
movies, books, and more. Users are free to add their own
recommendations, rate other recommendations as well as update and
modify content on the website, in the same way as . It uses a logical approach of "If you love X, then you'd love Y" where Y is a recommendation provided by internet users.

According to IfYouLove.net's "dream" page, it's main focus is to
transcend boundaries made by country borders as well as genres. For
this reason, items are not categorized by genre, and thus it's
possible to find recommedations where a HipHop musician is matched up
with a Rock artist.

There is also a Spotlight Artist featuring unknown/upcoming
musicians, and users can read about the artist while listening to
their music.

IfYouLove.net also offers a user profile page, where users may
register for an account, and interact with other users on the website.
By listeng one's favorite musicians, books, etc. a user may be able to
find other users who have similar preferences across all categories,
or related to one specific category.

The final aspect of IfYouLove.net is it's fairly unknown SEED
application, which maps all the recommendations. When you view an item
on the site, and click the associated "SEED" link, you may view all of
associated recommendations. The original item appears as a
Dandilion, and it's associations appear as a seed. Double clicking
a seed "plants" it into a dandilion, and the recommendations of that
new item are viewable. In this way, it is theoretically possible to
see the entire category's relationship through the law of .

History
IfYouLove.net has, in its short life span, has already existed in two
forms, the first themed as a Dandilion website, and then being
rebranded with a bee.

IfYouLove.net was solely developed by Alishah Novin, shortly after
graduating from the University of Toronto with a Physics and
Philosophy degree. Alishah Novin writes on the website that the
website was inspired by trying to create a mixtape for his
girlfriend. After exhausting his personal library for songs, and
wanting to preserve a similar sound for the album, he tried asking
some friends for help. Disappointed by the lack of reliable resources,
he ended up making IfYouLove.net expanding it to include not only
music, but movies, books, websites, video games, and more.

To date, the website has had 4 Spotlight Artists, and has over 2,000
recommendations.

Features
User accounts
The User account includes a profile page where a user can upload their
picture, and fill out standard user information. They are free to
communicate with other users of the site, and can network with users
by doing searches based on location, favorite musicians, movies etc.

IfYouLove pages

Each website item is considered an "IfYouLove Page," which features a
description, image, and links to related websites. Beneath the initial
description are all the recommendations, sorted by rating, in a manner
similar to Digg.

Spotlight Artist

Every month, IfYouLove features a new Spotlight artist on its site.
The musicians are often unsigned, and feature their music, bio and
pictures on the website.

Seed Application
The Seed application maps all the recommendations. When you view an
item on the site, and click the associated "SEED" link, you may view
all of associated recommendations. The original item appears as a
Dandilion, and it's associations appear as a seed. Double clicking
a seed "plants" it into a dandilion, and the recommendations of that
new item are viewable. In this way, it is theoretically possible to
see the entire category's relationship through the law of Six degrees of separation.
