Petty Officer 3rd Class Ian McPhillips (born 1982) is a U.S. Coast Guardsman. Coast Guard Career McPhillips is a native of McMinnville, Oregon. He joined the US Coast Guards in 2001 and was a Coast Guardsman during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. During this time, he rescued over 100 civilians from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was awarded the Air Medal and his accomplishments were honored by such dignitaries as Prince Charles of England and celebrities such as Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. McPhillips continues to serve as a helicopter rescue swimmer at the Coast Guard Air Station in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
