NLite and vLite

nLite is a freeware application for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP (32 and 64 bit) and Windows Server 2003 designed to remove Windows system components 'above and beyond' what is offered by Microsoft itself via 'Add or Remove Programs', 'Add / Remove Windows Components' and create cut-down customized installation CD (or bootable USB stick).
It lets you to add device drivers and integrate Service Packs (and other Windows Updates). It also allows you to fully automate the installation, including Product Key entry, setting the administrator's password, setting the regional settings and creating user account names etc.
You can also remove all hundreds of drivers aimed at obsolete hardware that slow down the normal install process. Since the installer does not contain the unwanted components, this leads to major improvements in the speed of installation, which is of considerable benefit to IT Staff still using a manual 'roll out' approach (without the benefit of Microsoft Sysprep).
Such cut-down CDs also allow you to install Windows onto hard disks (or other storage media) below 512MB (or even 256MB) in size.
vLite is the Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit) version.
While some people have reported success using vLite with the Windows 7 beta and the RC, vLite is not fully compatible with Windows 7. To date (early 2012) the creator has not announced any intention or plan to support Windows 7.
