Gerald Charles Ward was an educator and and officer in the United States Army and the United States Air Force. Biography Ward was born on December 16, 1901 in Babcock, Wisconsin. He would graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.D. in Civil Engineering and later graduate with a M.D. from Northwestern University. On June 19, 1930 Ward would marry Sarah Augusta Hardy in Madison, Wisconsin. They would have two children. Ward would become an Instructor and Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Northwestern University until 1968. He would later become Professor of Civil Engineering at what now is the University of Central Florida. Ward passed away on November 7, 1978 in Winter Park, Florida. Both he and Sarah are buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Military career Ward originally joined the United States Army Reserve and was called to active duty in 1940. He would participate in the North African Campaign during World War II. After the war he would be stationed at The Pentagon. In 1947 Ward would become one of the original corps of officers in the newly-formed Air Force would help to establish the Air National Guard. He retired as a Colonel in 1955.
