Edward Chynoweth

Edward Chynoweth was an officer in the United States Army.
Biography
A native of Oregon, Wisconsin, Chynoweth was originally from Nunda, New York. He was born there on December 27, 1853. Chynoweth would marry Emilie Grethen and have three children. Chynoweth would also attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He died suddenly on July 27, 1909 in Atlanta, Georgia after having an operation for a sudden attack of an intestinal disorder caused by amoebic dysentery. Both he and Emilie are buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Career
Chynoweth graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1877 and was assigned to the 17th Infantry Regiment. Early in his career he would serve at Fort Yates, Fort Custer, and Fort D.A. Russell. During the Philippine-American War Chynoweth served as commanding officer of Company E in his regiment, including during the Battle of El Caney. After serving in the war Chynoweth was assigned as the Inspector of the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1901 to 1902. In 1905 he would be stationed at Fort McPherson. Later he would be stationed in Cuba until 1907 during the U.S. occupation. He would graduate from the United States Army War College in 1908. Following graduation he would return to Cuba until being re-assigned to Fort McPherson in 1909. It was there that he would succumb to amoebic dysentery, which he had originally contracted during the Philippine-American War.
