HybridSite

HybridSite (also known as HybridSite Web Services and HybridSite Digital Media) is a Cleveland-based web hosting provider and domain name registrar. It is the web hosting and cloud computing business owned by YouCue Networks, LLC, founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Phillip Hedayatnia. HybridSite began hosting customers' sites in 2013. HybridSite is perhaps best known for its use of its own proprietary cloud infrastructure, the HybridCloud, and for providing low cost and free web services through the HybridSite Outreach Program.
Web Hosting
HybridSite provides shared web hosting running on top of its proprietary HybridCloud cloud infrastructure, developed solely by founder Phillip Hedayatnia. HybridSite also offers cloud storage and computing services for entrepreneurs and developers, launched in 2014. As part of HybridSite's main plans, users also receive web design services, user experience research results, and access to the HybridSite-owned Dist ad network. More notably, HybridSite does not have a customer panel; billing is handled through a billing panel and while Cpanel is available by request, HybridSite utilizes messaging platform Slack to handle most user inquiries/installs on its network.
Hosting-only plans
In 2013, the company began a beta hosting-only service, entitled HybridCloud. In April 2014, HybridSite launched HybridCloud with plans starting at twelve dollars per month, providing access to the HybridSite computing infrastructure at a price point competitive with other shared hosts. HybridCloud is currently only available in the United States.
Design/Development services
In 2014, the company began offering its HybridLab and design services to non-hosting customers under the unified title HybridLab. HybridLab plans will be made available sometime during the summer of 2014.
Incidents/Outages
* In February 2014, HybridSite's cloud platform was attacked by an unidentified botnet, taking many HybridSite blogs offline. Service was restored within an hour, but remained off-and-on for the duration of the attack (one week).
Heartbleed vulnerability
On April 9, 2014, HybridSite CEO Phillip Hedayatnia released a statement to the company's customers via the HybridSite Facebook page that noted the following:
"In short, the probability is extremely low that any of our customers were affected by Heartbleed. By default, we do not use OpenSSL on our servers in favor of a proprietary solution compiled in-house, which as we know was not affected by Heartbleed. The only point in which HybridSite customers interact with an OpenSSL-equipped server when using our services is when processing payments through our payment processor, Stripe, which has not been able to detect any attacks on their systems. HybridSite is committed to providing extremely secure hosting, and it seems in this case that our systems were not affected by this widespread security breach. However, we advise all customers to follow the steps outlined by the other services they use to reset passwords and protect their personal information, for their own benefit. If any of our customers have any questions, please do not hesitate to email support at - we'd be happy to elaborate or explain anything related to Heartbleed."
As Hedayatnia later explained in a post on the HybridSite support forum, the Heartbleed bug only applied to OpenSSL and since HybridSite used their own implementation of MatrixSSL, they were unaffected by the security bug. Hedayatnia concluded by stating that "The hacking community has eluded to this bug for a while. We were nervous, so we acted proactively. I'm really glad we did."
